Sexual Violence and Nursing

Abstract
In Korea, sexual violence is incresing social problem to a dangerous level and it¢¥s offenders and victims are getting younger. Sexual violence is the most critical event or problem through victim¢¥s life and it can produce biased sexual identity. Nurses can meet the victim as a client at any settings and have to care them actively. Therfore, it is very important to know about present state of sexual violence and it¢¥s effect, to propose the intervention for prevention of sexual violence.
This study was attempted to investigate the mechanism and type of sexual violence and it¢¥s effect to victim¢¥ life, and to propose the nursing intervention for victims and the prevention of sexual violence.
The mechanism of sexual violence is effected by the interpersonal violence, sex conservatism, authoritarism and sex role stereotyping. The motivation of sexual violence are the expression of anger, hostility and the sense of isolation , and the intention of showing his power rather than momental sexual impulse.
The victims complaint "depression", "anxiety", "anxiety about loss of virginal chaste", "sense of guilty", "anger" etc. The victims are younger, the more experience lifelong psychological suffering.
The scope of sexual violence include the rape by relatives, sexual harassment at work, child sexual abuse and prostitution.
In conclusion, the nurse have to carry out the preventive nursing intervention as a leading personnel in clinical setting and community, especially in school setting. First of all, we have to respect the value of human and to throw biased sex stereotyping.
